Biography:

Hiroyuki Harada is the Principal Network Engineer at Sapporo Gakuin University and a Technical Advisor for Cityroam. His journey in wireless roaming began by implementing eduroam at my university, leveraging the excellent roaming infrastructure developed by our predecessors in the academic community.

In 2018, he led the university to open its entire campus network to visiting citizens through the Cityroam federation. This initiative evolved in 2020 to support WBA OpenRoaming, further expanding our secure, seamless connectivity.

To promote the widespread adoption of OpenRoaming, he provides technical advice and development support to Wi-Fi operators and equipment manufacturers regarding core technologies such as Passpoint and authentication infrastructures.

Recently, as one of the four founding members of Cityroam, he was honored to share the Minister of State for Science and Technology Policy Award at the 7th Japan Open Innovation Prize. This award recognizes our team’s leadership in an open development community dedicated to enhancing the security and convenience of public Wi-Fi.
